Alfred F. Bonvissuto, affectionately known as "Uncle Al," 83, of Spencer, died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at O'Neill Healthcare in Lakewood. Born in Buffalo, New York to the late Angelo and Margaret (nee Tomasello) Bonvissuto, Alfred grew up in New York and relocated to Cleveland in his teens.
Alfred was extremely proud to serve his country in the Army during the Korean War, receiving the UN Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked at Bargar Metal Company in Cleveland as a truck driver. Alfred was a devoted husband and father. He loved smoking cigars and driving Cadillacs.
Survivors include his children, Margaret (Jim) Smith, of Huntington, Angelo (Janet) Bonvissuto, of Wellington and Ralph (Patty) Bonvissuto, of Ashtabula; 6 grandchildren, Melissa, Amanda, Angelo II, Taylor, Greg, Nicholas and 6 great grandchildren. Alfred is also survived by sister, Angie Durda. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Frances (nee Parete); grandson, Eric Price and siblings, Angelo Bonvissuto, Sam Bonvissuto, Rosie Mount and Josephine Stueber.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 25 from 4-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
