Carl A. Witbeck, 83, a lifelong Wellington resident passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Born on September 20, 1933 in Oberlin, he was the son of the late Aubrey and Della (nee Ray) Witbeck. Carl attended Wellington High School.
As a young man Carl worked for Botsford Tree Services before becoming a truck driver. He was a heavy hauler driver and started for Aldrich Lumber Co and drove for 30 years with Ruhlin Construction. Carl retired in 1995 as a million mile driver. After retirement he developed a passion for golf which he enjoyed with several friends. A long time member of the Wellington FOE #2051, Carl was very active volunteering with many activities including the senior lunches. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV and spending time with friends and family singing and dancing.
Carl is survived by his companion and best friend Velma Young; his children Christy (Gary) Young, of Chesterland, Lorrie (Tom) Frawley, of Marietta, and Carl Gregory Witbeck, of Cincinnati; grandchildren Matthew, Lauren, and Alex Frawley, and Jessica and Max Young. Carl is also survived by Annie, Nikki, and Kennedy, who were honored to call him Grandpa. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Harold, Charles, and Leonard Witbeck, Mary Clark, Grace Townsend, and Betty Wyatt.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, January 22, from 12 p.m. until the time of services beginning at 3 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington.
