Clark W. Opel, 95, of Sandusky and formerly of Wellington, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. Born on April 16, 1919 in Meyersdale, PA, to the late Ella (nee Witt) and William H. Opel, Clark moved to Elyria in 1939 and to the Wellington area in 1977.
Having served in the United States Army for 4 years during World War II, from October of 1941 to March of 1945, he spent three years of his service as a radio operator in the India Burma Theatre (China, Burma, India). Clark worked for a short time before and after World War II at Colson Corporation. He then worked at Ridge Tool in Elyria, where he retired after 29 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellington.
Clark is survived by his children, Thomas Opel of Wellington, Karen Magney of Lutz, FL, and Ellyn Malham of Spring Hill, Fl; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, in 2008; parents, William and Ella; brothers, Leroy, George, Ross and Donald; and sisters, Doris Martin and Evelyn Shaw.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Rochester Cemetery, Griggs Road, Rochester, Ohio. Norton-Eastman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements and condolences may be given online at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
