Elsie May Wise

Elsie May Wise, 90, of Homerville passed away peacefully on Friday March 14, 2014 at EMH in Elyria. She was born on January 29, 1924 in Pittsfield to the late James A. and Roena (Whitney) McConnell. Elsie was a 1942 graduate of Wellington High School and attended Oberlin School of Commerce. She worked in the Treasurer's office at Oberlin College and in Columbus at the University before coming back to the area. In 1950, she was married to Frank Lewis Wise and they continued in his Grafton Construction business. In the 1960's they moved to West Salem where they purchased a farm; enjoying the daily work, milking cows, and raising Belgian Draft horses. Frank passed away in 1972, the farm was sold and she returned to Wellington. She worked at the Oberlin Savings Bank until she started clerking auction sales; retiring in 1996.

Elsie is survived by her sisters, Ida Clawson, Dorothy Walker and Hazel Pitts all of Wellington and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, her brothers Norman, Howard and infant brother Thomas McConnell and her friend John Fenstermaker. She was a member of the Homerville Methodist Church and a dedicated spinner with the Lorain County Spinners guild. She enjoyed travelling and had been to many interesting countries. She was very determined and overcame blindness due to Macular Degeneration and maintained her home and enjoyed a fairly normal lifestyle thanks to her family, friends, neighbors and Church.

Friends and family will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Wellington Reservation Metro Park, 535 Jones Rd. Wellington with a memorial service beginning at 6:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at a later date at River Road Cemetery in LaGrange. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lorain County 4-H Endowment: J.A. McConnell Family Scholarship or The Friends of the Wellington Community Auditorium.
