Frederick Alspach Obituary

Frederick Lyle Alspach,70, of Wellington Ohio, died July 19, 2017 from injuries sustained following a vehicular accident. He was born February 9, 1947 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Lyle and Mabel (Horner) Alspach. He was a 1965 graduate of Findlay High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969.
Nothing brought him more joy than his wife of 51 years, Susan (nee Willard) and his 3 daughters, Virginia (Garry) Bly of Ganges Ohio; Amy Alspach of Cleveland and Meredith Alspach of Amherst; grandchildren, Jayce Myers, Kadie Myers, and Carter Howard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Findlay and Wellington. He was preceded in death by siblings Nancy (James) Brown; Kate (Al) Wilson; John Thomas Alspach; Dan (Joann) Alspach; and nephew Steve (Pat) Brown.
In 2009, Fred retired from the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc after 36 years. During the many safety presentations he gave throughout his career, Fred recalled the 1979 accident that left him severely burned and which ultimately led to improved protective clothing for utility and safety service workers. He would often speak of how the love of his family and friends helped him to heal from the immense pain he suffered. Later in his career, Fred was involved with several economic development projects. He was instrumental in the organizing of the Lorain County Rural Wastewater District and also serving as its initial executive director. He was a charter member of the Wellington American Legion Post 8 and served in the following capacities: Wellington Village Council, Wellington Fire District Board, Wellington School Board, Wellington Kiwanis, Lorain County Agricultural Advisory Council, Leadership Lorain County Trustee, Lorain County Visitors Bureau Trustee and Lorain County Metro Parks Trustee. Fred was actively involved with the Lorain County Fair for many years and in 2011 received the Clair Hill Memorial Award. At the time of his death, Fred was a volunteer driver for Wellington Senior Citizens Bus as well as Chairman of the Park Planning Committee (former McCormick Middle School property).
