James M. Lowther, 87, died on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Lorain. He was born on January 20, 1931 to the late James E. and Dorothy (nee Davis) Lowther. James was a lifelong Wellington resident and graduated from Wellington High School. In 1951, James enlisted in the Marie Corps and served during the Korean Conflict.
James worked in construction and was a proud member of the Labor Union. He attended the Wellington First United Congregational Church, helped with the Wellington Alumni meetings and enjoyed volunteering with the Harvest of the Arts.
He never missed breakfast at the diner and loved reading his morning paper. James could often be found at the Herrick Memorial Library as he had a passion for reading. His other hobbies included cooking, baking and gardening.
He is survived by his children Jim (Teri) Lowther, of Sheffield, Jay (Leanna) Lowther, of Wellington, and Jack (Lisa) Lowther, of South Amherst; grandchildren Rachel, Jimmy, Eddie, Janet, Rebecca (Jeb), J.J., Amanda (Abraham), Michaela, and Nathan; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marha Troyer of VA.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (nee Stanfield) Lowther earlier this year and siblings, John Lowther and Dorothy Clark.
Visitation will be held Monday July 9, from 4-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington, 44090. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington, beginning at 11a.m. Donations in James memory may be directed to the Herrick Memorial Library, 101 Willard Memorial Sq, Wellington, 44090.
