Junior C. Simonson, fondly known as "Butch", 86, of Huntington died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his home. He was born March 15, 1928 in Huntington and was a resident of Huntington his entire life. He attended Wellington High School.
Junior was a respected businessman who treated everyone fairly. He operated the family poultry and grain farm until retiring in 1988. From 1967-1977 Junior and his family stripped and refinished furniture. He and his family also bought and sold antiques for many years. In 1980, Junior and his wife, Fran, became Arctic Cat Snowmobile and ATV dealers and he retired after 30 years.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he spent many wonderful days hunting with his son, Clint, grandsons, brother-in-laws, nephews and friends. He loved fishing with his family and friends and the many picnics that followed the big catch of the day. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, picking fruit and arrowhead hunting and was a member of the United Church of Huntington. Whatever business Junior was in he always included his family - He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Frances (nee Clawson); son, Clinton (Donna) Simonson, of Sullivan; daughters, Claudia (Mark Hickey) Simonson, of Sullivan; Connie (Ron) Hall, of New London; grandchildren, Clinton Simonson, Jr., Justin Simonson, Jerome Swaggerty, Cherie Holtkamp, Ed Reisinger, Jr., Amanda Reisinger, Melody Longwell; and 9 great grandchildren. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lucille (nee Chapman) Simonson and 2 sisters, Leola Jordan and Virginia Von Kamp.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, July 25 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the United Church of Huntington, 26677 State Route 58, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Rev. Stephen Carmany and Rev. Joel Bucklin will officiate and burial will follow at Huntington Cemetery. Donations can be made to the family to be allocated to various charities.
