Kenneth M. "Kenny" Oney, age 79, life long resident of Greenwich, passed away on Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2014 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was born at home in northern Richland County, on March 20, 1935, the son of Joseph and Beulah (Cole) Oney.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1955 to 1957. Kenneth was a machinist for Akron Standard Mold, a custodian for Plymouth Shiloh Schools and co-owner of K&M Sporting Goods. He was also a life long farmer and provided transportation for Mennonite families for many years.
Kenneth was a founding member and elder of the Lifepoint Community Church in Plymouth and a member of the Greenwich Rural Coon Hunters Club.
He loved his family. Kenneth was an avid hunter and outdoors man and enjoyed camping.
Survived by his sons, Russell (Annette Martin) Oney of New London, Mark (Sandy) Oney of Willard, Michael (Carla) Oney of Greenwich and Kevin (Shawn) Oney of Greenwich; grandchildren, Brandon, Jenny, Jessica, Michelle, Megan, Ethan, Josh, Levi and Garett; 9 great grandchildren with one more on the way and his four legged companion, Mollie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Betty A. Oney.
Friends may call Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main Street, Greenwich from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a service will be held Monday 11 a.m. with Pastor Rich Hurles officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be given to the Lifepoint Community Church, 260 Riggs Street, Plymouth, Ohio 44865.
