Maxine Norma Whiton, 90, of Wellington, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2015 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lorain. Maxine was born on August 8, 1925 in Preston Co., West Virginia to the late Hunter Boyd and Hazel (nee Sisler) Bowser. She moved to Wellington in the 1950s.
Maxine worked at Wellington Implement as a stock person and also cleaned houses and doctor's offices as well as putting wall paper in homes all over town. The kind of person who always had to be doing something to keep busy, she could be found, even into her eighties, changing the oil on her tractor. Maxine was a member of the Wellington Freewill Baptist Church, the Wellington Eagles and the VFW Women's Auxiliary.
Maxine is survived by her children, Joann (Eugene) Smith of Wellington and Ronald (Marleen) Friend of Amherst Twp; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Janet Roberts of Terra Alta, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Whiton; son, Clifford Friend; former husband Clarence Friend; and siblings, Deloris Gank and Boyd Bowser.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday August 16, from 2-6 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. Services will be held on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. at The Wellington Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Kennedy Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Township Cemetery.
