Paul Fridenstine Obituary

Paul L. Fridenstine, 81, of Oberlin passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

Paul was born in Elyria, Ohio, on April 1, 1936. He resided in North Ridgeville until 1944, at which time he moved to the family dairy farm in Oberlin. He developed an interest in electronics at a young age, took a mail-order course and ran his own TV/radio repair shop in the corner of the farm's grainary at the age of 14. Paul was an electrical engineer at Gilford Instrument, where he worked for 30 years.

Paul was dedicated to 4-H starting with wiring the first camp buildings on Kelley's Island. As a 16-year old 4-H Junior Leader, he started what is known today as the Milk Bar. Through more than 50 years he volunteered his time to help promote, simplify, educate and make lives safer in dairying and 4-H. He received numerous awards and honors, including the State 4-H Alumni Award 1994, the Lorain County Fair Claire Hill Award in 1998, the Lorain County Dairy Service Award in 2000, the Ohio Friend of 4-H Award in 2012, and the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Director's Award for Innovation and Excellence in 2013.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting organs and player pianos, tinkering with his Cockshutt tractors, and helping his sons on their farm. Paul was very happy when he could help his family on the farm.

Paul was married 54 years to the love of his life, Linda Fridenstine (nee Wyckoff). He is also survived by sons Michael (Shelli) and Mark of New London, daughter Vicky of Oberlin, grandsons Tyler and Kevin, and a brother John Fridenstine (Lois) of Oberlin. Paul is also survived by his dear sister-in-law Monte Dale Rybarczyk (Ronald), brother-in-law Rich Reinders, and beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held on Sunday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m., at the Birmingham United Methodist Church, 15018 South Street, Birmingham, OH 44816. Pastor Richard Kretchmar will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lorain County 4-H Endowment Fund in care of the Lorain County Extension Office, 42110 Russia Road, Elyria. Norton-Eastman Funeral Home in Wellington is handling arrangements.
