Richard McHugh Obituary

Richard Lee McHugh, born on August 31, 1942 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to Alfred and Betty Anne McHugh, passed away on May 17, 2017. Richard was a 1960 graduate of Warren Consolidated High School in Tiltonsville, Oh. He was an Eagle Scout where he earned his God & Country Award. He attended Ohio University and served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. Richard retired after being an Air Traffic Controller for 36 years. He became a member of the Ohio City Lodge #486 in Martins Ferry, Oh 1966. He is also a 50 year Mason and was Worshipful Master 3 times in Wellington #127 and a Worshipful Master in Stonington Lodge #503 where he was a present member. He is also a 50 year member of the Valley of Cleveland Ancient Acceptance of Scottish Rite and an MSA, Valley of the Firelands Ancient Acceptance of Scottish Rite. He served two terms as president of the Lorain County Blue Lodge Assoc. Richard is a past president of Lorain County Scottish Rite and was currently the secretary and treasurer. He is also a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. He was currently serving on the Wellington Planning Commission for 22 years and also served on the Wellington Cable Commission and was a trustee and vice president on the Herrick Memorial Library Board, as well as a trustee on the Scottish American Cultural Society in Ohio. Richard was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington and past chairman on the Administrative Board and vice chairman of the Board of Trustees. He also was a member of the Lorain County El Rey Grotto, the Amvets, Wellington Eagles and American Legion. He was proud to have traveled to all 50 states and after retirement, spent 6 weeks traveling to Europe and the UK. He also vacationed with the family to Ireland. Richard served as chairman of the committee in passing the Wellington School District Income Tax.
Surviving is his wife Dorothy Jean (Woods), daughter, Tiffany (Jason) Edwards of Johnstown, son, Kyle (Tracie) McHugh of Wakeman; granddaughter, Lucy Edwards; grandsons, Alex Scott and Liam McHugh; a brother, Gary (Nancy) McHugh of Tiltonsville, Oh; brother-in-law, Calvin (Darlene) Woods; sister-in-law, Cathy (Chuck) Pollock, of Plain City, Oh. And nieces, Katie Woods, Ali Woods and Tori (Anthony) Rourke, Heather (Chris) Hoyt and Kimberly McHugh, Christopher and Case Pollock and great nieces Remi, Carrigan and Eliza Rourke, special friends; Trista Johnson and Mia Zawodny.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at The Wellington First United Methodist Church, 127 Park Place, Wellington, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Masonic Service at 11:00, followed by a memorial service with Rev. Paul Wilson officiating. A burial will take place at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to The Cleveland Learning Center, 3615 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, Oh. 44115, or the First United Methodist Church in Wellington.
