Robert Geary, Obituary

Robert W. 'Giz' Geary, Sr., 85, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Primrose Care Center in Mansfield after a sudden illness. He was born in Mansfield on December 26, 1925, son of the late Thomas and Blanch (Hoover) Geary. Giz moved to Greenwich in 1976 and has resided in Mansfield for the past eight months.

He worked at Met's Auto Supply for several years and later owned and operated Geary Automotive in Greenwich with his wife, Marge from 1972 until retiring in 1995. Bob was a former member of the Greenwich Rotary and a member of the Norwalk VFW. He served in the U.S. Army Ninth Infantry during WWII in Germany.

Robert was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather that expressed a great sense of humor. He was an avid Buckeyes fan and enjoyed traveling, gardening and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margery (Kahl) Geary; sons, Robert W. Geary, Jr. of Greenwich and Steven A. Geary of Shelby; 2 granddaughters, Kristin N. Alexander of Oahu, HI and Heather L. Geary of Lexington and great grandson, Nathan Jones. He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia of Toledo and Sharon Wood of MI; in-laws, Mary and Roger Steude of PA and niece, Patty Musselman of PA. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Aubrey L. Geary and 11 siblings.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 11th at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday with Pastor Bob Hudberg of the Foundation Church, Norwalk officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Edwards Grove Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be given to the American Heart Association, 1689 E. 115 St., Cleveland, Ohio 44106.
