Ronald J. Murner, 72, of Wellington, passed away at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center on Saturday, August 13, 2016. He was born April 15, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Myron and Dorothy (nee Krueger) Murner. At age 12, his family moved to Avon, Ohio and Ron graduated from Avon High School in 1962.
Ron became a journeyman carpenter in his early 20's and was a member of the Cleveland Carpenters Union. Because of the loss of his eyesight in the late 80's, he could no longer work in the trade but he still loved to give advice on how to build something to whomever asked.
In the late 90's, Ron joined the United States Blind Golf Association and began playing in tournaments. He was also a member of the American Blind Golf Organization. Between these two organizations, he made many friends across the U.S. and Canada. From 1999-2016, Ron and his wife, Pat (coach/caddy) travelled to more than 45 tournaments. The match play competitions between the U.S. and Canada were some of his favorites. He also had many friends and family who took him to tournaments and played with him locally in golf leagues.
Ron had been a member of the First Congregational Church in Wellington, Wellington Eagles, and the American Legion for many years. He leaves behind many friends.
Ron is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia; children Barry (Laura) and, Brett (Andrea); grandchildren Blake, Max and Hudson; sister Sandra Henning, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received for a visitation on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 5-8 pm at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 140 South Main Street, Wellington, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11: 00 am with Rev. Becki Verbridge officiating.
