Ruby May Wegter

Ruby Wegter, 91, of Oberlin died Sunday April 8, 2018. She was born July 17, 1926 near Webbville, Kentucky to Richard and Ivory Sparks, the oldest of their fourteen children. In the spring of 1947 she heard the transforming message of the Lord Jesus and surrendered her heart and life to Him, which was the source of her abiding joy and peace for the rest of her life. She moved to Ohio in 1951 with other family members, living first in Lorain and LaGrange, then moving to Cleveland, where she met Gerrit Wegter in 1955.

Ruby and Gerrit were married January 5, 1960 in Cleveland, where their son Christopher John was born in October that same year. They made their home in Cleveland until 1967, when they moved to a farm in Brunswick. In 1973 they moved to the Southwest, and lived for 30 years in Arizona and New Mexico. After Gerrit's death in May 2003, Ruby returned to live in Wellington, close to her large, loving family. She entered Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin in March 2009.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband Gerrit, her parents, Richard and Ivory Sparks, a sister, Ruth Mouzon, and a little brother, Lonnie Ray Sparks. She is survived by her son Christopher John, by eleven sisters and brothers: Bea Sturgill, George Sparks, John Willie Sparks, Martha Krupar, Hazel (& Jim) Paluch, Jim Sparks, Minnie Gross, Jean (& Jim) Stewart, David Sparks, Barbara (& Bill) Watters, and Ivan (& Sharon) Sparks, by many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren, by countless brothers and sisters in the faith, and by many people whose lives she touched with her loving care through the years.

Friends and Family will be received on Wednesday, April 11, from 4-7 p.m at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street. Services will be held on Thursday at the Pittsfield Township Hall, beginning at 11 am. Burial will take place on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:15 pm at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman Ohio. Condolences may be expressed online at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
