Ruth Lent Obituary

Ruth Pauline Lent, 91, of Wellington, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at Keystone Pointe after a short illness. She was born and raised with her family in Pittsfield Township. After graduating from Wellington High School, she started working in downtown Wellington where she caught the eye of Bob Lent. The two were introduced by mutual friends, later married and started raising their family of three boys. Ruth and Bob became an integral part of the community as they worked side by side at their Lent Gulf Station on East Herrick where she was the book keeper. Although Ruth considered herself a homemaker first and foremost, she met many new friends from other various part-time jobs she took to stay busy after she lost her husband. She never obtained a drivers license but instead walked everywhere she wanted to go; she felt that contributed to her longevity.

Confronted with cancer in 2005, she fought hard through subsequent surgeries to get back to normal life where she could continue to do the things she loved and spend more time with her family. She loved being outdoors, weeding in her flower beds and working in the garden. Despite the fact her doctors recommended against those activities the past few years, she let her boys know that she would continue to do just that and she did.

She enjoyed helping others and appreciated all the kind words and good deeds that others did for her during her life. Many will attest to the fact that they were recipients of her baked goods and fresh strawberry pies. Holidays were made more special by her delicious and intricately decorated sugar cookies and her cream puffs. Her grandsons were especially fond of her homemade vegetable soup.

She was so proud of her family and looked forward to spending time with them whether it was one on one or at family reunions. The past summer she made the trip back to Marietta for the annual Lent Reunion. In her quiet time she enjoyed reading, playing cards and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed the game of basketball and rarely missed watching the Cavs. Ruth will be forever remembered for her kindness and compassion by her family and friends.

Ruth is survived by her 3 sons, Dan Lent (friend Robin), Dave (April) Lent and Gordy (Marla) Lent; grandchildren, Tracy, Matthew, Shawn, Ryan, Clayton and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Todd and Grace. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 199y; sisters, Gertrude Waite and Elizabeth Hill and parents Clarence and Lois Jordan.

Guests will be received Thursday, April 12 from 5-8 pm at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main Street, Wellington. Services will be held Friday, April 13, at First United Methodist Church, 127 Park Place, Wellington beginning at 11 am.
