William Brumfield Obituary

William Wells Brumfield, 77, a lifelong resident of Wellington, died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home. Born on January 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Robert Oliver and Irma Frances (nee Fujka) Brumfield. Bill was a 1958 graduate of Wellington High School and studied engineering at the Case Institute of Technology.

Bill owned and operated Brumfield's Sparkle Market, which later became Brumfield's Village Market. An active member of the Wellington Community, he served on various boards and committees including the Herrick Memorial Library Board of Trustees, the Wellington Endowment Fund, Main Street Wellington, and The Lorain County Community Foundation. Volunteering was an important part of Bill's life; he worked with Save our Children as both a benefactor and an active volunteer, for which he received the StarFish Award. Bill could always be seen scooping ice cream at the July 3rd Patriots band concert, and he assisted with the Harvest of The Arts and Cheese Festival. An active member of the Wellington First United Methodist Church for 69 years, Bill served as a Lay Leader and taught and attended Sunday School for many years.

The Wellington Schools were very important to Bill. He volunteered on several levy committees and gave gifts for various improvements, but his presence will forever be felt in the project that was most dear to him, the Patricia J. Lindley Center for the Performing Arts. Not only was he a primary benefactor of the project but he spearheaded its creation, served on the board, stood in as acting manager, and acted upon the stage numerous times.

Theater was also a big part of Bill's life and he enjoyed acting in and directing plays with the Amherst Workshop Players as well as the Wellington Old Church and Community Theater programs. He loved watching and discussing movies and hosted a yearly Academy Awards party. Following the Cleveland Indians, and even attending Spring Training in Winter Haven, brought a lot of joy to Bill's life. He will be forever remembered as a hard working and dedicated volunteer who strived to make his community a better place.

Survivors include his children Patricia "Pati" Brumfield, of Virginia, and William "Will" Brumfield, of Georgia; grandchildren Zachary Brumfield Elliott and Molly Rose Brumfield-Horner; brother-in-law Jerry (Karen) Lindley; nieces Roberta "Robin" Schoonover and Denise "Dennie" Heller and nephew Robert "Bob" Brumfield. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia "Pat" Lindley, his brother Ernie Brumfield, niece Deborah "Debbie" Brumfield Kelly, and his daughter-in-law Tracey Brumfield.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, December 8, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Wellington First United Methodist Church, 127 Park Place, where services will be held on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Rev Paul Wilson and Rev. Lea Mahan will officiate and burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. Donations in Bill's memory may be directed to the Patricia J. Lindley Center for the Performing Arts, P.O. Box 123, Wellington, 44090. Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared online at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
