Esther L. Smith, 100, of Lima, died on August 19, 2019 at The Springs of Lima. Born on August 15, 1919 in North Fairfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late Mary Jane (Brown) and Floyd Harrington.
Esther was a graduate of Shiloh High School in 1937. On September 2, 1939 she married Gerald R. Smith, they shared nearly 54 years of marriage until his passing on August 19, 1993. She was a homemaker and together they had five children.
She lived for many years on Old State Rd. while in Ohio, then Fort Meade, Florida and most recently of Lima, Ohio. While in Florida she enjoyed being involved in all of the activities that were offered in the park where she had lived. Esther had been a member of the Ripley Church, Greenwich and the United Methodist Church of Fort Meade, FL, where she was active at both churches. She loved to square dance and did until she reached 90. She was a seamstress, did upholstery and loved to quilt.
Esther is survived by her sons, Leo (Diane) of Columbus, OH, Fred (Janis) of Libertyville, IL; daughters, Carol Grim and Louise Foster (Jerry Lotz) of Lima, OH; daughter in law, Annette Smith of Crestline, OH; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by her son, Everett L. in 1992.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. , Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich.
