Harold B. McClaflin, 87, of New London, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2019 at The Laurels of New London. He was born on May 20, 1932 in Nova, Ohio to the late Orrie and Mildred (nee Stewart) McClaflin.
Harold loved farming and horses and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was a member of 4-H when he was younger and enjoyed attending county fairs all his life. In 2017, he was crowned the Huron County Fair, “Senior Fair King”. After retirement he liked to go to produce auctions and loved watching his granddaughter show horses.
Harold was a longtime member of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Norwalk and was part of the “55 Plus” group. In addition to farming he also worked for the City of Norwalk on street department for 30 years.
Survivors include his children, Alice (Donald) Bernow of Springfield, OH, Jim (Cathy) McClaflin of Clarksfield Twp., John (Penny) McClaflin of Clarksfield Twp., and Dale McClaflin of Medina; grandchildren, Nicholas and Kayleigh Bernow and Lear McClaflin; sister, Bonnie Leonard of Mansfield and several nephews and a niece.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his late wife Mary (nee Fritz) McClaflin and nephew, Andy Leonard.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 3 pm until 7 pm at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, OH. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Francis Mariadas officiating at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 38 West League Street, Norwalk. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with a team of Haflinger horses and wagon leading the procession through town in Harold’s honor.
