Ida LouEmma Clawson, 100, a lifelong Wellington area resident, died Monday, October 14, 2019 at Keystone Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in LaGrange. Born March 26, 1919 to James and Roena (nee Whitney) McConnell, Ida grew up on the family farm in Pittsfield, attended the Pittsfield Special No. 1 one-room school and was a 1937 graduate of Wellington High School. She then attended the Oberlin School of Commerce.
Ida worked in the Oberlin College Admissions Department and later at Gilford Instruments Laboratories and Ciba Corning Diagnostics in Oberlin retiring in 1988.
Ida was a faithful member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wellington, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a long-time secretary of the Wellington Literary Club, President of the PTA and President of the Women’s Auxiliary of what was then the Southern Lorain County Community Hospital in Wellington where she was also one of the Gray Ladies of the American Red Cross volunteers.
Survivors include children Ted (Sandra) Clawson of Fort Worth, TX; Roger (Dianne) Clawson and John (Donna) Clawson of Wellington; son-in-law Craig (Tommie) Gibbins of Fort Worth, TX;
grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Gibbins, Amanda (Owen) Hatcher, Megan Clawson, Adam (Laura) Clawson, and Sarah (Jimmy) Bronza; 7 great-grandchildren and sister Dorothy Walker. Ida was preceded in death by her daughter, Roena; infant great-grandson, Henry Owen Hatcher; husband of 65 years, Earl; an infant brother and siblings Norman McConnell, Howard McConnell, Elsie (Frank) Wise and Hazel (Dorrell) Pitts.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Wellington Eagles, 631 S. Main Street, from 1-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Well-Help, 127 Park Place, Wellington, OH 44090
