James "Jim" Gilbert Obituary

James S. “Jim” Gilbert, 65, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2019 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.  He was born on July 22, 1954 in Sandusky to the late Wendell and Beverly (Grover) Gilbert. 

Jim was a proud man who loved his children.  He worked hard and had a wonderful sense of humor.  He enjoyed listening to Tom Petty, Bob Seger and Eddie Money. 

Jim had worked for Brooker Brothers as a blacksmith for 17 years, Growers Chemical Corporation as a driver and Cantelli Block and Brick Inc. also as a driver for nearly 24 years.

Survivors include his former wife and long time friend, Liz Gilbert; their children, Shawna Legg, Kisha Wright, Robbie Gilbert, Jeramy Gilbert, Josh Gilbert and Jerrod Gilbert; former companion and long time friend, Dora Hoag; their children, Josh Irby, Israele Davis and Zack Gilbert; brother, Mickey Gilbert; sister, Marti (Bob) Welch; 24 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tim, Kenny and Dave and dog “Blue”.

Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with Jim’s arrangements.  To honor Jim’s wishes he gave the gift of life through organ donation and will be cremated.  A potluck style memorial dinner is planned for Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Norwalk Eagles Club Room, 151 Cline Street, Norwalk.
