Norma Ross Obituary

Norma Jean Ross, 76, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, entered into rest on Sunday, June 23, 2019 surrounded by her family. Born on January 11, 1943 in Norwalk, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Marian (nee Mahl) Hammersmith. Norma was a graduate of St. Paul High School. 

 

Norma worked as a secretary for Clutch and Friction Service in Norwalk. Faith was a central part of her life and as a devoted catholic she was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church and would sing in the funeral choir. She was also a member of the Center Farm Club. Norma considered herself a farm girl and enjoyed the country life, especially tending to her gardens. She enjoyed traveling and would go to Tennessee often. Christmas was a big deal in her home, and was typically celebrated year round. Those who knew her will remember her famous angel food cake and other baked goods. Family was of the utmost importance to Norma, and she cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. 

 

Survivors include her children Arthur Edward (Molly) Ross, of Norwalk, Anthony (Wendy) Ross, of Huron, and Andrea (Rick) James, of Logan; grandchildren, Ashley and Kristine Ross, Cole and Clay James, and Michael, Shawn, and Tamara Oakley; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings Ann (Jack) Frankart, Paul (Diane) Hammersmith, James (Suzanne) Hammersmith, and Donna (Gerald) Mahl. Norma was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence E. Ross Sr.

 

Friends and family will gather on Thursday, June 27, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main St, Norwalk, 44857. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, 44857 on Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m. burial will follow at St Paul Cemetery. Donations in Norma’s memory may be directed to St Paul Catholic Church. Condolences may be expressed online at walkereastmanheydingerfh.com.
