Delbert Claude Mohrman, of Wellington, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the age of 88. He was born January 16, 1929 in Oberlin Hospital and lived his entire life in Wellington, Ohio, only moving once in his life from his parents home on 134 Middle Street until the age of 21 ½ to where he built his present home before he was married to his late wife, Alice, on June 25, 1950, the day the Korean War started. His present residence at 124 McKinley Street was a vacant building lot until he bought it in late 1948, the year he met Alice and they got engaged. Alice was a 1948 graduate of Brunswick High School and Delbert a 1946 graduate of Wellington High School. They met at the Medina Roller Skating Rink which still exists today. From the time Delbert met Alice in 1948 at this roller rink in Medina, he never dated another girl and was still a widower at his death. Alice was the love of his life.

After 18 months of marriage, Delbert was drafted into the Korean War January 17, 1952 and trained at Fort Dix, New Jersey in the U.S. Army Infantry for 6 months, shipped out to Sendai, Japan for advanced heavy crew serve weapons training for 2 months then over to Korea where he spent the next 9 months on the front lines, MLR now DMZ, with the 45th Infantry Division Company F in the 180th Infantry Regiment as a heavy weapons gunner and eventually section leader with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on October 17, 1953. Delbert went on the front lines on November 11, 1952 (then Armistice Day) and was pulled off 3 days after the cease fire was signed on July 30, 1953. Combat time under enemy fire 260 consecutive 24 hour days! Delbert was a lifetime member of the Wellington VFW Post #6491 and the American Legion Post #8.

Delbert was a very experienced honey bee keeper with his father while at a young in the 1930's through the 1940's. His father was the largest bee keeper in Lorain County and was the State Bee Inspector for 15 years and they shipped tons of honey to local bakeries as well as Canton, Ohio during the sugar and gasoline rationing era of the Second World War starting in 1941 and 5 years beyond.

Delbert was a house builder with his father Claude in the Wellington, Oberlin, LaGrange and Carlisle areas for 14 years under the name of "Claude Mohrman and Son". Delbert's father, Claude retired from house building in late March 1963. One week later, Delbert was hired as a journeyman carpenter at NASA-Lewis Research Center, now Glenn Research Center, in Cleveland, Ohio and worked in the building maintenance division for 28 years. After retiring on October 31, 1990, he was re-hired in March, 1991 as a private contractor and was a project manager and quality control inspector on large multi-million dollar new construction projects until late 1995. Delbert's work life spanned 48 years, 1947 to 1995.

Delbert and family did extensive traveling while on vacations from NASA. They owned 2 pick-up campers and 3 large motor homes over the years traveling the country for 15 years. During their travels, their sons had been to all 48 states, twice to Canada and twice to Mexico by the time they graduated from high school in 1977 and 1981.

Delbert is well known in the Masonic Fraternity where he was still an active member for over 56 years (as of 2011), served as Worshipful Master in 1961 in Wellington Lodge No. 127.
