Gordon Marett Obituary

Gordon Cecil "Moe" Marett, 81, of New London, passed from this life to the next on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. He was born on August 10, 1936, to the late Reggie and Christine (nee Hunter) Marett in New London.

Moe was a pillar in the New London community. He was on the school's 1952 state football championship team and continued on to play in college, as a 135 pound lineman for Muskingum University. Moe was president of New London's little league program and a coach for the team that made it to Williamsport, PA in the 1962 Senior League World Series. In addition, he had a passion for Cleveland sports.

Gordon was active with the New London CIC (Community Improvement Corporation), New London Athletic Boosters, Salvation Army and had been a past President of the New London Rotary. He was instrumental in gaining funding for the football field and attracting several businesses to the village including the nursing home. In 1961 Gordon started Marett Insurance where he and his wife Carol worked together for many years, and his son Brian continues to own and operate today.

As busy as Gordon was professionally, he cherished his time with his family and found ways to help others through ministry. He was an avid fisherman and had a boat on Lake Erie for over 40 years, was a member of the Fitchville United Methodist Church, was involved in a weekly bible ministry to Grafton Prison, and had been part of the Heart of Ohio Emmaus Men's Walk. He was a devoted husband and wonderful father, grandfather and most recently great grandfather.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of over 58 years, Carol (nee Hamisfar) Marett; their children, Michael (Cynthia) Marett of New Hampshire, Brian (Wendy) Marett of New London, Renee (Alex) Zelnik of Amherst and Kyle (Tracey) Marett of New London; grandchildren, Ryan, Amanda, Jordan, Tyler, Corey, Elizabeth, Katie, Abby and Breanne; great granddaughter Nicolette; fishing buddy and best friend Donald Everman, and several other good friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Arden and William.

Moe's family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London and again on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Fitchville Cemetery.
