Henry Tappel Obituary
Henry "Hank" Tappel, 74, of New London, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at his home.
Hank was born on January 21, 1944 in Cincinnati, son of the late Harry and Marian (Burlew) Tappel.
He attended military school and graduated in 1961 from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati. Hank served in the Ohio National Guard for over 20 years.
In 1968 he moved to New London to become the Huron County Game Warden. Hank worked at the Huron County Sheriff's Office, New London Police Department and MTD in Willard. He then worked for the Mansfield Correctional Institution as a guard and later in the transportation department where he retired in 2004.
He loved the outdoors, shooting, muzzle loaders, golfing and fishing. Hank will be especially remembered for the stories he told.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Gay (Runkle) Tappel; children, Todd (Kelly) Tappel of New London, Shawn (Joey) Tappel of New London and Leigh Ann (Mike) Gerlak of New London; grandchildren, Shawna, Corey, Cody and Drew; 5 great-grandchildren and his "furry child", Booker
In addition to his parents, Hank was preceded in death by a sister and 2 brothers.
Hank's family will greet friends from 5-8 pm on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to Southern Care Hospice, 41 Briggs Drive, Ontario, Ohio 44906 or the New London Alliance Church, 4625 State Route 162, New London, Ohio 44851 or the Fitchville United Methodist Church, 1593 US Route 250 South, New London, Ohio 44851.
