James C. Spoerr, 87, of Greenwich, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 19, 2018. He was a resident of the Laurels of New London for the past year and a half before his passing at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
Jim was born on December 15, 1930 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late George and Dorothy (nee Schwanger) Spoerr. He was a 1950 graduate of Savannah High School and had both worked and retired from the former General Motors Plant in Ontario, Ohio. Jim served his country as part of the United States Army. He later farmed and drove school bus for South Central Schools for many years. Jim will be fondly remembered by many from his years of playing organ in area churches. He had served Savannah Methodist, Bethel Baptist and New London First Baptist Churches, collectively over 40 years.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Alice (nee Box) Spoerr. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage on October 5th, 2018. He is also survived by their children; Cindy Webster of Greenwich, Tricia (Randy) Merrill and Tammy (Paul) Alexander of Enterprise, AL and Jimmy (Brenda) Spoerr of Greenwich; grandchildren, Robert (Monica) Webster, Aaron Ensley, Micah Merrill, Miranda (Dave) Peets, Mattaniah (Allisha) Merrill, Moriah (Melissa) Merrill, Marciah Merrill, Malchijah Merrill, Robert Alexander, Ryan (Victoria) Alexander, Rebecca (Clay) Eagerton, Randall Alexander, Raymond Alexander, Rachel (Matt) Caron, Heather (Scott) Stolcals, Stephanie (Brock) McBride and Clifton Spoerr; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald(Mreadith) Spoerr, Gene (Linda) Spoerr and sister, Audrey (Doug) Cameron.
Preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Genieva Spoerr.
A visitation will be held at Eastman Funeral Home, New London from 2-5 pm on Sunday, November 25, 2018 and again on Monday at the First Baptist Church in New London from 10 am until the time of the 11:30 am service with burial to follow in Ashland County Memorial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Merrill's Musical Ministry, 593 County Rd 17, Enterprise, AL 36330.
