Juanita Jo (Reed) Amburgy, 90, of New London, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 7, 2018 after a length illness.
She was born on June 25, 1928 in Hueysville, Kentucky and was the oldest of 9 children, moving to Ohio. She worked 10 years at Pioneer Rubber and assisted her husband, Arnold Amburgy through many entrepreneur adventures, including her last one at the Fitchville Restaurant for 2 years. Then, she proceeded to work 13 more years as a seamstress at Kent Sporting Goods. She finally retired to live and enjoy all 18 of her grandchildren. Plus, she enjoyed and spoiled all of her 38 great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Juanita was a soft-spoken, humble and forgiving woman of gentleness, patience and quiet strength. Her life consisted of loving the Lord, honoring her husband, raising her children, cooking delicious meals (mainly her biscuits and gravy, cornbread, soup beans and apple pie), family picnics, birthday parties and holiday gatherings. She dearly loved the simple things, especially gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, singing and yodeling.
She is survived by 4 daughters, Janice Westbrook of Longboat Key, Florida, Beatrice (Randy) Ingram of North Fairfield, Alecia (Dan) Bailey and Patricia (Monte) Marsh of New London; 1 son, Tim (Cindi) Amburgy of New London; 1 stepson, Arnold (Sara) Amburgy, Jr.; 2 daughters-in-law, Margie (Martin) Wise Amburgy Mutnansky of New London and Cathie Staples Amburgy Dewalt of Florence, Kentucky; brothers, Ogil of Summerfield, Florida, Hershel (Shirley) of Inola, Oklahoma, Robert (Percilla) of Willard, Rephard (Rhonda) of Centerburg and Russell (Gene and Jeanie) of Tiffin; sisters, Rita (Mike) Faidley of Palm Coast, Florida and Sue (Lynn) Newman of Apopka, Florida and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Amburgy on October 5, 2011; parents, Dolly (Prater) and Creed Reed; 1 brother, Charles (Bud and Bernie) Reed; 1 daughter, Diana Joy Amburgy Lykins; 3 sons, Donald Dean, John Keith and Clarence Edward Amburgy and 2 sons-in-law, Danny Westbrook and Edwin Lykins.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the New London Alliance Church, 4625 State Route 162 from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday, October 10, 2018 with her grandson Pastor Tyler Amburgy officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to the New London Alliance Church, where she belonged for over 40 years or to the FAS, 25 James Street, New London, Ohio 44851 or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
The family wishes to thank the Laurels of New London and Stein Hospice of Sandusky for their excellence in caring for their mom.
The family looks at her absence as just being in another room, because they still feel her presence among them. So, "maybe rather than mourn the absence of a flame, let us celebrate how brightly it glowed."
