Mary Caroniti Obituary

Mary Caroline Caroniti, (nee Shaw) 86, of Oberlin died 3/16/2018 following a long battle with cancer. Born in Penfield on December 5, 1931, she lived her life in Penfield and in Oberlin. She graduated from Penfield High School in 1949.

Mary worked for the Oberlin school district as a cook for 28 years, retiring in 1993. After retirement, Mary cooked for the Oberlin hot meals program for 16 years. Mary was a long-time devoted member of Peace Community Church since 1965, formerly known as First Baptist Church of Oberlin. Mary enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren and being a 4H advisor for over 25 years. Mary also enjoyed cooking for family and making quilts. Mary loved to enter her baked goods and sewing projects into the Lorain County Fair, she has won numerous ribbons over the years.

Mary is survived by son, Dan (Lauren) Caroniti of Amherst; daughter, Donna (Bill) Rolfe of Lagrange; son, James Caroniti of Oberlin, and grandchildren, Erin Rolfe and Brandon Rolfe; sister Martha (John ) Criss of New York; brother Clyde Shaw of Sullivan; sisters-in-law, Virginia Wargo, Dorothy Rossman, Shirley Yarmock, Beverly Piper and many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Eugene Caroniti, her parents Thelma (nee Housman) and Ray Shaw and Brother Lyman Shaw.

Friends and family will be received Saturday March 24, 2018 at Peace Community Church, 44 E. Lorain St., Oberlin at 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:30AM. Pastors Steve and Mary Hammond will officiate. Burial will be private at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Peace Community Church or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Keystone Pointe for their kind and loving care of Mary for the last 5 years & to New Life Hospice for her last few days.
