Stephen M. Kaczay, 89, of Wellington, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Keystone Pointe Nursing Home in Lagrange. Steve was born on August 28, 1927 in Elyria, the son of the late William and Anna Kaczay. A graduate of Clearview High School, he played football, baseball and ice hockey, and spent much of his life in the Elyria, Lorain, Grafton and Wellington areas.
Steve joined the Army and served during WWII. He was with the 1560 Army Service Unit-CAM Atterbury, IN. He was a carpenter, working for years alongside his brothers for Kaczay Brother's Builders. Steve loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming and ice skating. He liked music and played the harmonica. Steve helped start the boys baseball team for Belden while his daughters kept score. He was a wonderful gardener, raising tomatoes, potatoes and sweet corn, which he gladly shared with anyone who asked, and some who didn't. Most of all, Steve was a loving husband and father. The lessons he taught his family, especially how to love your neighbor without wanting or expecting anything in return will be forever remembered.
