Alfred L. Oney, 88, of Greenwich, died on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at his farm surround by his family. On August 9, 1934, he was born in Northern Richland County on his grandfather's farm. Alfred grew up in the Greenwich area and graduated from high school in 1952. He was member of the Naval Air Reserves from 1952 -1958.

Alfred worked as a civilian with the US Air Force for 21 ½ years in Shelby, OH, Mobile, AL, and Dayton, OH. Following that, Alfred worked as a food inspector for the USDA from 1973 until 1995. In total, he had 43 years in civil service, farmed for many years, and retired at age 75.

He was a member of the Greenwich United Methodist Church. Alfred was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, becoming a 32nd degree and earning the Knight York Cross of Honor. Most recently, Alfred was a member of Roby Lodge #534 in Monroeville.

Survivors include his 5 children, Steve (Sherri) Oney, of Huron, Laura Sweeting, of Norwalk, Cheryl (Dan) Mehl, of Boyne City, MI, Robyn (Patrick) Bovia, of Shelby, Dawn Oney, of Greenwich; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Gordon Oney, of North Fairfield, Gerald (Connie) Oney, of Greenwich, Raymond Oney, of Greenwich; sisters-in-laws, Shirley Oney, of Wickenburg, AZ, Mary Oney, of New London and many nieces and nephews.

Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne Oney in 2017; daughter, Carol Flint in 2000; parents, Fred and Wanda Oney; brothers, Larry Oney, Mitchell Oney and infant brother, Ronald Oney; and sister-in-law, Katherine Oney.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday June 7, 2023 from 5-8 pm with a Masonic Service being held at 4:00 PM at the Greenwich United Methodist Church, 18 E. Main Street, visitation will also be held Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alfred can be sent to the Greenwich United Methodist Church, 18 E. Main Street, Greenwich, OH 44837.
