Obituary

Alvie Kidd, age 88, of New London, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Village of the Falls in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.

Born on March 2, 1937, in Honaker, Kentucky, Alvie was the son of the late Bill and Minta (Kidd) Kidd. A self-taught welder with unmatched skill and pride in his craft, Alvie worked for Ohio Body in New London until its closure, and later for Willard Machinery and Welding, where his work earned him respect and admiration.

Alvie was a man of simple joys and deep connections. He loved a good game of horseshoes and was always ready to teach you the "winning way" to throw the shoe—something he continued to talk about even in his final weeks. Known for his warm smile and firm handshake, he made countless friends walking the track at the New London park, wearing out many pairs of shoes in the process. He cherished sunny summer days, working on his tan in the yard. At the nursing home, he was affectionately known as "Johnny Cash," and his final days were filled with the music of Johnny Cash, George Jones, and John Denver.

Above all, Alvie's greatest joy was being "Poppa." He treasured every moment with his grandchildren—fishing, bike rides, lawnmower races, truck drives, and those irresistible after-school ice cream runs with Tyler, Travis, Trevor, Hannah, and Hayley. If they wanted it, Poppa made it happen.

Alvie is survived by his children: Jeffrey (Sherry), Scott (Pauline), David (Peggy), Paul (Michele), Joyce (Daniel), and bonus daughter Teressa Roar. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Rosalie (Risner) Kidd; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and bonus grandchildren; brothers Edgar, Edward, Don, and Earl; and sisters Pheba Case and Jurlene Isaacs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Walter, Walker, Tennessee Taylor, Emelene Ross, Edna Wooton, and Mearl Kidd Mullins; his in-laws Jake and Ivellea Risner; and granddaughter Stephanie.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Village of the Falls for their compassionate care and love. Alvie found a second family there, and their kindness will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St. New London, Ohio, where his Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Rick Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park in Ashland, Ohio.
