Alvin Ralph Gariss, 88, of Wellington, died at his home on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Born in Elyria on July 1, 1921 to the late Ernest and Amanda Gariss, Alvin was a 1941 graduate of Brighton High School. Alvin was a proud member of the 8th Air Force and served overseas during World War II. For 33 years, he worked as a millwright for General Motors. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellington. Alvin enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Eva; children, Patricia Watters of Elyria, Ronald (Chris) Gariss of Post Falls, Idaho, David (Rita) Gariss of Longmont, Colorado, Leah (Jase) Williams of Kissimmee, Florida; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a great great grandson.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 26 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Alexander officiating at the First Baptist Church, 125 Grand Ave., Wellington. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alvin can be sent to the First Baptist Church.
