Obituary

Alvin Poole, 90, of New London, died Saturday, at Stein Hospice, Sandusky. Alvin was born in Elyria, son of the late, Allen & Cora (Haynes) Poole. He lived most of his life in New London. He was a 1936 graduate of New London High School, where he was active in sports. He worked 43 years at U-Brand in Ashland, where he was a member of the 20 plus club, AFL-C10 Local 258, served 2 years on shop committee, 2 years on molders committee, was recording secretary of Local 258 and 1 year member of the U-Brand softball team. He also worked part time at Duke Millirons Shoe Repair, Ashland and Miller Bro. Grocery and Eastman Funeral Home, New London. Mr. Poole was a very active member of Second Baptist Church in New London, where he was a trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, choir director, building fund treasurer, financial director of the B.T.U. Sandusky and Toledo District, and an Ordained Deacon for 37 years; he also helped with cleaning and repairs to the church building. Survivors included children, Ronnie Poole, of New London, Geraldine (Cletus) Grantham, Elyria, Connie (Cooper) Hawkins of Akron, Janice Rembert of Louisville, Ky; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great and great great grandchildren; siblings, Clarence (Mary Ellen) Poole of Norwalk, and Deloris Lavine of Sandusky. He was preceded in death by infant son, Rodney Allen and siblings, Arthur Poole, Ethel McKinney and Wanda Williams. Friends may call from noon until the 2 pm funeral service Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Second Baptist Church, New London. Donations in his memory may be made to Eastman Funeral Home, New London.
