Obituary

Norwalk, Ohio - Ann S. Atherton, 87, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center. She was born October 22, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Harry J. and Mary J. (Hughes) SirLouis and came to rural Monroeville in 1950 from Richland County, Ohio. Ann was a member of the North Fairfield United Methodist Church, where she had been an Eastern Conference delegate. She was a former teacher in the Monroeville and Willard Public Schools, and was a former employee of Holman Jewelry Store. Ann was a life member of the Firelands Historical Society, the Huron County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, the First Families of Richland County and Ohio, Settlers and Builders of Ohio, and Civil War Families of Ohio. She was also a volunteer, and past president, of the Fisher-Titus Auxiliary, a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Huron County A.D.A.M.S. Board. Ann enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing piano, reading, flowers, genealogy, auctions, and yard sales. She was an exhibitor at the Huron County Fair, winning many ribbons and awards. Ann is survived by her children, Bruce (Rosemary) Atherton of Marysville, Ohio, Rebecca Williams of London, Ohio, Cheryl Jordan of Blanchester, Ohio, Elizabeth Matthews of Monroeville, Ohio, Corinna (Steven) Bennett of Hudson, Ohio, and Jonathan (Sherry) Atherton of Canfield, Ohio, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Cecil G. Atherton, Jr., in 1998. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the North Fairfield United Methodist Church, 105 West Main Street, North Fairfield, Ohio. Rev. Tim McCollum will officiate. Interment will be in Brightman Cemetery, Bronson Township, Ohio.
