Obituary

Ann H. Fowkes, 79, of Wakeman, Ohio, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands in New London, Ohio, after battling Alzheimer's. She was born in Alliance, Ohio and grew up in New London. Ann graduated from New London High School in 1950. She moved to Alliance and graduated from Mount Union College in 1954 receiving a degree in Education, specializing in English, Spanish and French. She taught in Orrville, Ohio and later in Elyria, Ohio, where she met Reginald Fowkes, whom she married in 1958. Ann traveled to France, Germany, England and all over the United States as a military officer's wife and coming to reside in Pickerington, Ohio in 1981. She worked at Capital University Law School from 1987 to 1992 as a financial aid assistant. Ann and Reginald retired in 1992 and moved back to her family's farm in New London. She became very involved in her community volunteering through the Norwalk Adult Literacy Program and teaching English as a second language to adults. Ann enjoyed dancing with the Firelands Area Dance Squares, the Poco Loco Line Dancers and dabbling in clogging. She loved to garden and spend time with her family. Survived by her son, Randall Fowkes of Columbus and daughter, Christine Fowkes of New London. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald; parents, Wayne and Mary (Kiel) Hofstatter and brother Billy Wayne 'Hoss' Hofstatter. Visitation will be held Friday, June 29th from 2 ' 4 pm at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London.
