Ardarie Gibbs, 89, of Wellington, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at her home. She was born on April 17, 1922 in Blocton Alabama to the late William and Elizabeth (nee Duncan) Jackson. Ardarie grew up in Lynch Kentucky and in 1934 moved to Cleveland. She was a 1940 graduate of John Hay High School.
Ardarie worked for Oberlin College as a cook supervisor for 41 years, retiring in 1988. She was a charter member of Woman's Voters of Oberlin, a member of Well Help Inc., the Democratic Women of Ohio. Ardarie was also very active in the First United Methodist Church of Wellington where she served on various committees. She also enjoyed singing in the choirs of both her church and the community. Some of her favorite songs included 'If I can Help Somebody', 'When I've Done the Best I Can', and 'Precious Lord Take My Hand'.
Ardarie is survived by her two 'Hearts', her children Robert Jr.(Kimberly) and Robin, as well as grandchildren Tiwana, Andrew, Adrian, Aaron, Andrea, Chrisina, Bryce, and Jalen; 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years Robert in 1990.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, March 30, from 5-7p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Wellington, 127, Park Place, Wellington, where services will be held on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Lea Mahan officiating, burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
