Obituary

Aretta "Maxine" Floyd, age 97, of Wellington, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born July 10, 1927, in Mannington, West Virginia, to the late Earl and Mary (Michael) Snodgrass, she was one of ten children.

Maxine was very active in the community and served on the board for several organizations including the Eastern Star Rebecca Lodge, Grange Hall, and Lorain County Council. She was also a lifetime member and past president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 6941, where she had many dear friends. An avid bowler, Maxine played in leagues for over 40 years.

As important as Maxine's community was to her, she also cherished time spent at home. She enjoyed watching soap operas, the news, or sports on television. Most of all, however, she loved to spend time with her large family and was an adoring grandmother to many. Maxine particularly enjoyed babies, family or not, she would dote over any child in her presence.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Keith (Lora) Floyd of Kentucky, and Edwin Scott (Bonnie) Floyd of Nova; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Samuel Michael (Rosemary) Snodgrass of West Virginia.

In addition to her parents, William Earl and Mary Augusta Snodgrass, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Floyd; a daughter, Linda Darlene (Floyd) Broome; son, Michael Floyd; three grandchildren; five sisters, Eileen Pride, Ethel Neff, Janie Nerad, Joy Cross, and Eleanor Williams; three brothers, Claude Snodgrass, Wilbert Snodgrass, and Walter Snodgrass; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Cole) Floyd.

Family and friends are invited to visitation at Norton Eastman Funeral Home on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, also at Norton-Eastman Funeral home, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Nerad officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral on Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington.
