Arthur 'Blackie' Frederick Brinker, 84, of Wellington died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Elms. Born on June 23, 1926 in Chatham, Blackie was the only son of Earl and Gladys (nee Smith) Brinker. He attended Spencer High School before being drafted to the Army in 1944. Later, Blackie received an honorary diploma which he was very proud of.
For over 50 years, Blackie worked as a construction laborer out of Union 758 in Lorain. In 1966 he joined the First United Methodist Church of Wellington and has been a proud member ever since. He was also a life member of the American Legion.
A true 'jack of all trades', Blackie enjoyed anything that was a fixer-upper. He also loved gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Cora; son, John Brinker of Silver City, New Mexico; daughter, Linda (Bruce Hager) Karp of Wellington; 3 grandchildren, David Brinker, Dan (Caren) Karp, Elizabeth Karp and 3 great grandchildren, Adrianna, Anthony, and Grace. Blackie is also survived by his sisters, Marie (Sam) Taylor of Spencer and Maude (Ron) Voorhees of Medina. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary DeLong.
Friends will be received on Monday, August 23 from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington with military rites.
