Obituary

Arthur 'Art' Smith, 60, of Wellington, died Monday, November 2, 2009 following a short illness. Born on October 15 to the late Ivan and Marion Smith, Art was a lifelong Wellington resident. He graduated in 1969 from Wellington High School, and went on to proudly serve his county in the United States Army. Art enjoyed his family, whether it was talking to them on the phone or buying them gifts over the holidays. He liked to eat out, especially at local Wellington restaurants. Art loved his flowers and enjoyed traveling. He also had a large collection of lighthouses and roosters. Art was a member of the Wellington Grange and attended Emanuel Baptist Church and the Sullivan Congregational Church. Art is survived by his brother, James Smith; stepmother, Elsie Smith; good friends, Doug Johnston and Cheryl Case; stepsisters, Jackie Rivera and Janice Paynowski; and a stepbrother, John Cramer. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Friends will be received Thursday, November 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St., Wellington, where funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Farley officiating. Burial will take place at Huntington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Well Help, 127 Park Place, Wellington, OH 44090 or to the American Diabetes Association, 4500 Rockside Rd, Independence, OH 44131.
