Celebrating the Life of Arthur Paul White
April 1, 1939 – July 4, 2026
Arthur Paul White, a man of humility, deep faith, and quiet talent, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by the family he so dearly loved.
A Foundation of Family and Hard Work
Born on April 1, 1939, in Willard, Ohio, to Paul and Madelene White, Arthur was raised on the family farm in Greenwich, Ohio, alongside his brother and lifelong friend, Alan. As a teenager, Arthur grabbed every chance between farm chores to play baseball with neighborhood friends. It was during these early years on the farm that he discovered a natural gift for mechanics. What began as a chore—fixing broken tractors and equipment—blossomed into a lifelong passion. In his retirement years, Arthur became widely known for his masterful ability to restore classic automobiles.
Art graduated from high school, completed college coursework, and earned his journeyman’s certification in welding. A true craftsman, he mastered multiple trades over his lifetime. Alongside his father and brother at White Woodworking, Art built beautiful kitchen cabinetry and constructed several houses. He was entirely self-taught in auto mechanics and auto body repair, and eventually retired from the United States Postal Service in 2002 after a dedicated career as a rural mail carrier.
A Legacy of Love and Music
On October 11, 1959, Art married his high school sweetheart, Donna Jean Shorthouse, whom he affectionately called "My Jeannie." Together, they built a beautiful life and a bustling home in the Greenwich area. Blessed with five children, his signature wit was often on display when he fondly summarized his household as: "Mike, Marcia, Mindy, Mark, Matt, Mommy, and Me."
Faith and music were the cornerstones of the White home. Devoted to Jesus Christ and to one another, Art and Jeannie filled their household with melody, encouraging their children to sing five-part harmonies. Their home became a beacon of hospitality, filled with folksy, God-honoring music played on guitars, piano, and the mandolin. Friends and neighbors will long cherish the memories of Saturday evenings spent at the White home, sharing homemade pizza and singing songs together.
Humility, Faith, and Fellowship
Though Art's beautifully restored cars earned him numerous trophies at area car shows, he never chased the accolades. His humility far outshone his immense talent. For him, the true reward was the creative challenge of bringing a forgotten vehicle back to life, and the cherished camaraderie he shared with his friends in the Car Coddlers Club.
This same gentle humility guided his spiritual life. Art deeply loved the Gospel and lived with the quiet confidence that God's grace is freely given to all through Jesus Christ. In life and in passing, he found immense comfort in the words of 1 John 3:2-3:
"Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is."
