Aura Earline Griggs, age 79, of Huntington Twp., died June 21, 2007 at her home after a short illness. She was born December 22, 1927 in Hartfield Center, daughter of the late William and Anna (Ironmonger) VonSeggern. Mrs. Griggs was raised in Norwalk and was a resident of Huntington Twp. for 57 years. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1946.
Mrs. Griggs operated the Findley State Park Commissary from 1969 ' 1978. She was a 4-H advisor for the Huntington Sewing Susans for 20 years, a member of the Huntington Grange for over 50 years, and a member of the Farm Bureau. She was a charter member of the Huntington Historical Society and served as treasurer for several years. Mrs. Griggs was a member of the United Church of Huntington where she was very active and volunteered many hours in the kitchen preparing and serving meals for her church family. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and crocheting. Mrs. Griggs also made and altered wedding dresses for several women in the community.
She is survived by her four children, Diana Rowan, Charles Dean (Joy) Griggs, and Kelly (Les) Sheppard, all of Huntington Twp. and Michael Griggs of Brentwood, CA, ten grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, George 'Ray' VonSeggern of Norwalk and 2 sisters, Helen Poole of Norwalk and Thelma Kelley of Bucyrus. Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Charles 'Bud' in 1996, a sister, Alice Hoelzer, a brother, Edward VonSeggern, and her twin sister, Laura Saunders.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 24 from 5-9 pm at the United Church of Huntington, 26677 State Route 58, Wellington. Funeral services will be held at the church Monday at 11 am with Rev. Steve Carmany officiating. Burial will follow in Huntington Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be given to the United Church of Huntington or to the Herrick Memorial Library, 101 Willard Memorial Square, Wellington, 44090.
