Bertha Catherine (nee Puk) Komives, 89, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin. Born on November 21, 1919 in Blythedale, PA, Bertha grew up in Wyano, PA and later moved to Cleveland where she worked as a waitress.
In 1946, Bertha married Steve Komives of Wellington and she remained a Wellington resident until her death. She was a homemaker and a fruit/vegetable farmer. Bertha loved cooking, baking and canning her fruits and vegetables; she made the best chicken paprikas and stuffed cabbage. Bertha enjoyed reading and caring for others. An active member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Bertha donated her time in many ways. She also donated the land for Wellington's St. Patrick's Manor.
She leaves behind her son, Steve Komives of Wellington; sister-in-laws, Jane Puk Sue Komives and Mary Alice Komives and many nieces and nephews. Bertha was preceded in death by her father, Andy Puk in 1945; her mother, Nellie Puk in 1966; husband, Steve in 1988; sisters, Rose Manak in 1984 and Antonetta Mary Puk in 2004; brothers, John Puk in 1999 and Anthony Puk in 2004.
In accordance with Bertha's wishes, she will be cremated. Friends and family will be received on Monday, September 21 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. time of Memorial Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 512 N. Main St., Wellington, OH with Rev. James Reymann officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain at a later date.
