Berton James Carpenter, age 86, of New London died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Fisher Titus Medical Center, Norwalk. He was born October 19, 1921 in Syracuse, New York, son of the late Berton Joseph W. and Della Grace (Jacobs) Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter worked as a mechanic for many years. He resided in Florida for several years as a business owner of a Sunoco Service Station. Berton loved working with wood. He created many items for several family members. He also enjoyed finding antiques and refurbishing them and selling them. He is survived by 2 sons, Jim (Sherry) Carpenter of Sherman, Texas and Robert (Maryann) Carpenter of Zanesville, Ohio; his brother, Larry (Mary) Carpenter of East Syracuse, New York. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Carpenter, his son, Charles Carpenter, and his long time companion, Dorothy Ross in August 2007. Services will be private. Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London were in charge of arrangements.
