Obituary

Betty I. Hamman, age 88, of Shiloh, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at home after a lengthy illness. She was born October 28, 1926 in Willard to the late Judd and Margy (nee Kissel) Sloan. Betty graduated from Shiloh High School in 1945 and married the late Dean Hamman shortly after graduation. They enjoyed 45 wonderful years together before his passing in 2000. Betty belonged to the Shiloh Garden Club and was a member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Shiloh Alumni Association and the Richland County Auxiliary "Fairhaven Girls" where she was a secretary at one time, and also served in the cafeteria for many years. She also worked at the Shiloh School cafeteria for many years. Betty enjoyed doing floral work for weddings and funerals. Her creations won "Best of Show" on many occasions at the Richland County Fair. Betty helped her husband farm and she especially liked milking cows and taking care of the chickens. She could often be found enjoying her garden and taking care of her beautiful flowers. Betty cherished family gatherings. Betty is survived by her caregiver and wonderful daughter Margy; sisters, Hazel Myers and Jeanette Oney; sister in law, Phaenon Sloan; many nieces and nephews and close friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by her brothers Harmon J. Sloan and Leo F. Sloan and brother in laws Lawrence Myers and EarnestOney. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who spent time with and cared for Betty during her illness. A visitation will be held on Tuesday January 20, 2015 at Eastman Funeral Home 49 W Main St, Greenwich, OH from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and again on Wednesday at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, 29 W Main St, Shiloh, OH from 10 am until the time of service at 10:30 am with Pastor Blanche Tyree officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh, Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Mt. Hope Lutheran Church.
