Obituary

Betty "Jerl" Hargis, 88, of New London, died Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Laurels of New London.  She was born November 5, 1933, in Morehead, KY to the late Alma Hazel (Stevens) and George William Johnson.  Mrs. Hargis had a very strong faith and enjoyed going to church and singing in the choir.  Even after she was not able to go to church, she could always be heard singing.  She also enjoyed reading, family vacations, and was the owner and operator of Custom Topper with her husband, Jack G. Hargis who preceded her in death in 2019.

Mrs. Hargis is survived by her 3 daughters, Jackie Hargis of Tucson, AZ, Carla (Steve) Dearth of New London, and Teresa (Harold) Chandler of Louisville, KY; 5 grandchildren, Josh (Mary Beth) Dearth, Stephanie (Carl) Parr, Brent (Lacey) Dearth, Jason (Ashley) Gordy, and Joslyn (Joey) Osborne; 10 great grandchildren, Penny Dearth, Wyatt Dearth, Peyton Pickering, Beau Pickering, Bryce Parsons, Rory Dearth, Luke Gordy, Cade Gordy, Jayce  Osborne  and Jaxten Osborne; Sister, LaVerne Hargis of New London and half-sister, Jeanene (Doug) Fetterman of New London.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

No public services will be held, and burial will be at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ. Memorial contributions may be made to the Laurels of New London, 204 W. Main Street, New London, Ohio 44851.  Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main Street, New London assisted the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
