Obituary

Betty Jane Winfield, age 87, of Rochester, died Tuesday, July 15 at The Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands in New London. She was born March 23, 1921 in Cleveland to the late Orton and Buela (nee Monn) Wolfe. Betty was a 1939 graduate of New London High School where she was one of the first inductees into the National Honor Society and she worked at Fair Publishing in Norwalk during the early 1940s. Betty attended the Rochester United Methodist Church and was a member of the Rochester Guild. She was also a member of the Rochester Historical Society, the Flares, the Rochester Garden Club, the Homemakers Club and she served as an advisor for the Rochester Winning Workers 4-H Club for several years. Betty enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, Bingo and bird watching; she also loved playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her two daughters, Lois (Ron) Baker of Wellington and Jean (James) Speicher of Rochester, 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in 1970, a brother, Richard P. Wolfe and a half-sister, Bernice Hume. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St. Wellington where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Christine Bell officiating. Burial will follow at the Rochester Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to either the American Diabetes Association, 4500 Rockside Rd., Suite 440, Independence, OH 44131 or to the Rochester Fire Dept., 200 Eagle St., Wellington, OH 44090.
