Pastor Billy Joe White, 68, of Sullivan went home to his Lord on Tuesday, August 11. After a battle with cancer, he passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Logan, WV on May 8, 1941 to Andrew and Ava (nee Ellis) White, Billy Joe grew up in Wayne County, WV. In 1959, he moved to Lorain County, OH and settled in Sullivan in 1974.
Billy Joe worked at the Ford Motor Company in Brookpark, OH for many years, retiring as a general foreman. A man of great faith, Billy Joe served as the Pastor of the Free Will Baptist Church in Wellington since 1985. He also enjoyed farming.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Linda (nee Freeman) White; son, Billy Joe, Jr. of Nankin; daughter, Joann (Dale) Sprague of Bedford, KY; his mother, Ava White of WV; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by six brothers, Andrew 'Bud' (Eloise) White of Sullivan, Freelan White of Sullivan, Tenis (Gail) White of Wellington; Raymond (Marjetta) White of Wakeman, Tommy (Julia) White of Wayne, WV and Don (Sharon) White of Dunlow, WV and six sisters, Myrtle Thompson of Fort Gay, WV, Sue (Garland) Wilson of Ocala, FL; Brenda (Charles) Jarvis of Rittman; Shirley (Norman) Maynard of Wayne, WV, Karen (Herman) Willamson of Dunlow, WV and Lois (Ronnie) Little of Crum, WV. Billy Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna Mae in 1987; his father, Andrew White and brother, Robert White.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, August 14 from 1 to 9 p.m. at Free Will Baptist Church, 205 Woodland Ave., Wellington, Ohio 44090 where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday with Rev. Paul Daniels and Rev. Robert Prichard officiating. Burial will follow at the Sullivan Township Cemetery. Donations in memory of Pastor Billy Joe may be directed to the Free Will Baptist Church.
