Bob Blackman, 64, of New London, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk after a lengthy illness.
He was born on January 8, 1946 in Monroe, Michigan, grew up in Temperance, Michigan and moved to New London in 1975.
Bob graduated in 1964 from Bedford High School in Temperance, Michigan and earned an Associates Degree from Davis Business College in Toledo. He was an Auditor for Blue Cross Blue Shield, controller at the New London Hospital and started Bob Blackman Accounting in 1983. Bob served in the United States Air Force for seven years, serving in Thailand and New England.
He was a member of the North Fairfield United Methodist Church, Heart of Ohio Emmaus, New London Rotary and lifetime member of the New London American Legion Broome-Wood Post 292. Bob took care of the books for the Hospital Proceed Committee and served as a volunteer fireman. He also served as the New London Mayor from 1977 till 1980.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gina; children, Diane (Chip) Bayer of Galena, Michelle (Scott) Blackman-Konowal of Hilliard and David (Amanda) Blackman of Gahanna; grandchildren, Madison Bayer, Kyle Bayer and Eliza Blackman. He is also survived by his parents, Bernice and Earl Blackman of Ida, Michigan; sister, Sandra Johnson of Ida, Michigan and brother, Gary Blackman of Temperance, Michigan.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2010 and Monday from noon until the time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44106 or donor's favorite charity.
