Obituary

Carbet Yates, 91years young, of New London, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 surrounded by his family at his home. He was born on December 24, 1923 in Honaker, KY to the late Winford and Evelyn (Dude)(nee Lawson) Yates. Carbet served in the United States Army during World War II as a AAA cannoneer with the Battery B 919th Field Artillery Battalion. He served in Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe battles and campaigns. He was awarded the American Theater ribbon, EAME Theater ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Carbet was honorable discharged on Feb. 14, 1946. Carbet worked as a coal miner, a carpenter, and a manufacturer, and retired from Ohio Body. He was a member of the New London Church of Christ. Carpet dearly loved to look for ginseng in the hills. He took great pride in the service he gave to his country during World War II, and Carbet cherished time spent with his wife, his children and his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Siltana (nee Meade) Yates; children Sharon (Orbie) Case, Edwin (Charlene) Yates, Clinton (Barbara) Yates, and Carol (Russell) McGue; grandchildren Darin Case, Todd Case, Jamie Case, Sharon Yates, Derek Yates, Heather Fagan, Teddie Yates, Minniebelle Yates, Seneca Yates, Loretta Yates, Kelly Yates, and Brett Richards; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jacqueline Hill, and Denver Yates. He was preceded in death by his siblings Kermit, Okie, Wesley, and Ernie Yates, Margie Kidd, and Pina Williams, granddaughters Carol Lee Kay Siltana Yates and Heather Danielle Richards. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, February 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St, New London where services will be held on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.; Linroe Meade will officiate and military honors will follow. Burial will take place at Fitchville Cemetery.
