Obituary

Carl M. Westmoreland, age 87, of Greenwich, died Friday, March 6, 2015 at The Laurels of New London. He was born July 14, 1927 in Wise County, Virginia, son of the late James and Sarah (Brown) Westmoreland. He had lived in the Greenwich area most of his life. When Carl was 12 years old he left home and joined the CCC's (Civilian Conservation Corp.) Carl later joined the U.S. Army during World War II where he was in the Medical Corp. at Fort Dix, New Jersey taking care of wounded soldiers returning to the U.S. After the war Carl worked at Chrysler for 10 years then at Akron Standard Mold and Versitech for nearly 40 years. He was a member for many years of the Greenwich and New London First Baptist Churches and later in life attended The Foundation Church in Norwalk. Carl enjoyed gardening, Detroit Tigers Baseball, and most importantly he cherished spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucille (Holbrook) Westmoreland; his children, Carl D. (Phyllis) Westmoreland of Willard, Tina M. (Buddy) Westfall of Pennsylvania, James M. (Natalie) Westmoreland of Tennessee, Sarah R. (Barney) Pennell of Greenwich and Timothy P. (Corrie) Westmoreland of Tennessee; 9 grandchildren, Kimberly, Brandon, Brittany, Samantha, Amanda, Tyler, Brad, Alicia, Ryan; 4 great grandchildren, Camden, Delilah, Riley and Carter; his siblings, Helen Jefferson of Arizona, Roy Westmoreland and David Westmoreland both of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald, Kenneth, Ray, Virgil, Betty, Lilly and Gypsy. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Greenwich First Baptist Church, 96 Townsend St., Greenwich where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Bob Hudberg and Pastor Jeff Watson officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at the Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family in care of Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich, Ohio 44837.
