Carol Anne Schaffer, age 72, of New London, died Friday, May 15, 2015 at Marymount Hospital, Garfield Heights, Ohio after a lengthy illness. She was born December 18, 1942 in New London, daughter of the late Johnson Golding and June Marie (Ault) Porter. Carol was a lifelong resident of New London. She was a 1960 graduate of New London High School. She was a licensed cosmetologist and had been a beautician in New London for several years. Carol had also worked for C.E. Ward Co., New London Regalia and had been a secretary for New London High School for 10 years. She was a former officer and active with New London American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 292. Carol was active with the New London Quilt Guild and the New London Golden Agers. She liked to sew and quilt and visit with friends and family. She is survived by her brothers, John M. (Susan) Porter and David A. (Chris) Porter all of New London; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melvin A. Schaffer. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. Pastor Doug Lang will officiate the 5:00 p.m. service. Burial will take place at a later time at the Fitchville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the New London Quilt Guild or the New London American Legion Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.
